Armstrong wins open scholarship
In 1995, Herschel Armstrong received the Michael and Jane Nembhard Award after being named Belize’s top primary school student. Four years later, he earned nine passes in the CXC General Proficiency Examinations and was honoured as one of the top students at the secondary school level. Today, the young man, now eighteen years old, continues to excel, as the Ministry of Education has announced that Herschel Armstrong has been awarded the 2001 Belize Open Scholarship. Armstrong, who graduated from the University of Belize in June, earned a grade “B” in chemistry, mathematics and physics and a grade “A” in the A and O Level General Paper. The high marks were achieved in the June 2001 Advanced Level Examinations of the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate. Presently Armstrong is in St. Augustine, Trinidad pursuing an undergraduate course of study in electrical and computer engineering at the University of the West Indies. Other top candidates in the Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate include Ronald Heustis, Francois Jo-Hoy and Minerva Blancaneaux of St. John’s Junior College and Jonathan E. Williams of Corozal Junior College.
