2 Men Arraigned for Antelope Street Shooting
Two Belize City residents were arraigned late this evening in the courtroom of Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson for Friday afternoon’s shooting on Antelope Street. Police believe that they have obtained sufficient evidence against Jose Vasquez and Jose Rivera for the aggravated assault upon three individuals who stood near a mechanic on Antelope Street. While no one was injured in the shooting, police are unable to say what motivated the incident.

“On Friday, just after four, police responded to shots being fired on Antelope Street Extension. And upon arriving at a mechanic shop, they met two male persons who informed the police that while they were on the street side, they were approached by two male persons riding on separate bicycles. Commotion began between both sets of persons there and one of the male persons pulled out a firearm and fired several shots at three male persons that were in the immediate area. Police arrested and charged Jose Wilfredo Vasquez, twenty-four-year-old, and Jose Daniel Rivera, twenty-one-year-old, for the crime of three counts of aggravated assault.”
The duo pleaded not guilty to the charges, but due to the nature of the offenses, they were remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison until July twenty-ninth, 2019.
