A Bomb Threat at Holy Redeemer!!
There was a heavy police presence at Holy Redeemer Primary School this morning where officers, including a B.D.F. bomb expert, were combing the grounds for a grenade or a suspected explosive. That’s because someone had posted a threat on social media on Monday that a live grenade would have been planted on the compound today. Taking no chances, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams assigned a detail of officers to stand guard overnight and a thorough sweep of the school grounds was conducted at first light.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“We received information from last night, early last night and since then I had directed that we put police to guard the compound throughout the night and that the B.D.F. bomb expert be brought in early this morning to ensure that the grounds be checked properly before students and teachers are allowed on the compound. So that was done. The bomb expert cleared the building around 6:45 this morning and certified that the compound and buildings were safe and we maintained police presence throughout the day today and the police presence will be maintained right through until the end of this school term. I will say that while I have heard some comments to the effect that we have never had any bomb threat that really turned out to a bomb being present, that as a police department we do not take anything for granted and every bomb threat that we receive, we are going to respond to it as if it is real, especially where it involves our children. We need to ensure that we take good care of our children and ensure they are safe at all times and a school is no place for a person to try to declare a bomb threat.”
