Mexican busted for coke gets 5 years
Police in the north were not without some success, however. On Friday night, acting on a tip, they intercepted a Mexican vehicle about to cross the bridge over the Rio Hondo at Santa Elena. Hidden in a locked compartment behind the passenger seat was an assortment of shotgun shells along with two packages containing almost five pounds of suspected cocaine. The car’s two occupants, Luis Hernandez and Miguel Salazar–both Mexican–were charged with drug trafficking and possession of unlicensed ammunition. Hernandez pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years in prison plus a twenty thousand dollar fine on the drug charges and an additional two thousand dollar fine for the ammunition. Based on the guilty plea, all charges were dropped against Salazar.
