San Cas U.B. take game two
The people in the stands varied from die hard b-ball fans to first timers, but they were all there to witness the game that would make or break the B.T.L. bid to become the kings of semi-pro. San Cas U.B. burst onto the court determined to shut down the B.T.L. defence and walk away with a win of their own. The action on the court was so intense it even dribbled onto the sidelines. James Adderley has the story of U.B.’s rebound.

Game II of the semi-pro basketball championship series burst on the court last night and nobody, absolutely nobody, thought it would have been a repeat of the Monday night’s thirty-six point blowout, to which B.T.L. Nets subjected San Cas U.B.
Of course when respect is due, it is due, and maybe you youngsters out there could learn something about that from the journeymen from the United States, whose civility before game time is commendable.
Today’s ballgame finds Dwight Myvett in town and the U.B. fans felt he is the difference going in, so he opens with this jumper to get his team going. It’s Myvett on a mission when he penetrates and dishes to Eric and yes, you may Eric.
The other big time that flew in for game time, Alex Carcamo of the Nets, raises in the paint and ends the 9-0 U.B. opening run. And yes, this father and daughter pair is simply riveted by the action.
It’s a sputtering B.T.L. offence that forces Kevin Seroki to launch this three, which helps a whole lot. Vince Estrada then feeds Carcamo right now, but he travels as if still on his way to China.
Off the turnover, the tandem of Carter and Myvett re-connect for three and at the half, it’s a seventeen point U.B. lead.
We caught up with the individual awards, which we were issued during intermission. Among the recipients, Mark Bainton of Orange Walk Music Centre received the award for most assists and most steals during the season. Kirk “Shabba” Smith pulled in for most rebounds; that’s his forte. Keith Acosta emerged with the most season points and the MVP honours, that certainly was not unexpected; kudos from Channel 5.
But it’s back to the ballgame, and Andy Wormsley could you please tell us if you’re out of range? Meanwhile folks, this delay in getting the pill to Englebert Cherrington might have denied him the opportunity to dunk, but two points is two points. A few moments later Eric Maye gets permission to get two the jamming way.
On the other team, it seems Compton “Speedy” Staine is the only one with determination and focus, so he picks Myvett’s pockets and streaks downcourt for two. It’s Speedy Staine again, leading the break and again it’s good for two.
How bad can things get for the Nets today? Well the Worm can’t land the dunk that’s how bad it is. Nevertheless, Keith Acosta comes alive and helps maintain a B.T.L. run.
These two free throws from Carcamo then cuts the lead to six points, but that is the closest B.T.L. would get. Just too much U.B. today as Eric Maye emphasises.
