Holy Angels RC School Desperately Needs New School Building
Holy Angels RC School in Pomona, Stann Creek District, has been having a bit of a rough year. In March, health officials closed down one of its school buildings after it became infested with bats, termites, and rats. It was a persistent problem that the school was facing with little to no assistance from the school management. The school then turned to the public for its assistance and earlier in the week, Westrac Limited completed works on the once dilapidated building at a cost of more than thirty thousand dollars. The building will house six classrooms in order to accommodate one hundred and sixteen students. The principal of the school, Sadie Asevedo, says they have embarked on several fundraising initiatives to come up with about twenty thousand dollars for the construction of a new school building.

“If you recall, we can only hold three classrooms in here while we have six classrooms. So we still have an additional three classes that would be out of a building. So that is what we are trying to fundraise right now. We just had our May Fair. It didn’t go as we had planned. We had a poor turnout. But we are still trying to come up with different fundraisers. Even over this summer because if we can’t complete or do anything right now for September we are hoping that for the new school year we will continue to raise funds.”

“How much money do you need?”
Sadie Asevedo
“Close to twenty thousand for the new school building. That is just an approximation right now. We are just pleading to the public, whatever businesses, organizations that are out there right now. If they still want to assist us in regards to the new building we will really appreciate that.”
Belmopan Comprehensive School has donated nine hundred and seventy seven dollars while Royal Belize Vacations donated one thousand seven hundred dollars towards the construction of the new school building.
