CARD project assists Toledo communities
Expansion of the cacao crop is also being assisted by funds from CARD, the Community Agriculture and Rural Development project. CARD has been busy in other parts of the Toledo District as well. Three projects submitted by community groups from Santa Ana, Moho River Bank and Elridgeville will receive funds for various initiatives such as courses in business management, accounting, conflict resolution and leadership skills. The Ministry of Agriculture will be providing additional funding, but the groups themselves will be involved on a financial level by contributing food and transportation for the participants. CARD says the ultimate goal of alleviating poverty in the southern region of Belize has now reached the implementation stage where financing can be approved for local community groups.
In related news from Toledo, motorists are advised that the Golden Stream Bridge at mile seventy on the Southern Highway is impassable due to flooding. The public is asked to be careful in this area and check with the Ministry of Works to see when the highway is ready for traffic.
