OAS awards seven university scholarships
In recent months, we have become familiar with the Organisation of American States as the body helping to facilitate the peaceful settlement of the Guatemalan Claim to Belize. But the OAS is also helping Belize in other ways. The most recent benefit of membership comes in the form of seven scholarships given to Belizean students to further their education in the United States. Four candidates who will be pursuing advanced degrees under OAS sponsorship are Emil Cherrington, who will be studying in Maryland, Nicole Auil in Texas, Angela Bradley in Ohio and Ernesto Xiu in Kentucky. The three Belizeans pursuing bachelors degrees, all at the University of South Florida in Tampa, are Roberta Bain, Ada Chicas and Elmer Ochaeta. The total value of the scholarships for this year is two hundred and eighty-eight thousand Belize dollars.
