Plain clothes cop was Sylvestre, not Magdaleno
In related news, we must make a serious correction to something we reported in our extended newscast last night. During the live narration of a videotape of Monday’s rioting on the Tower Hill Bridge we identified a man in civilian clothing firing a handgun in the air as a policeman named Magdaleno. This was an error. The shooter was emphatically not Inspector James Magdaleno, Officer in Charge of Orange Walk and we offer our sincerest apologies. Inspector Magdaleno was on the scene at the bridge, but he did not draw or fire a weapon. The man who did fire a pistol in the air several times has been identified as Kent Sylvestre. Sylvestre is the head of the nation’s Tourism Police Unit and makes frequent trips to the Tower Hill Bridge area where many visitors embark on boat trips to the Lamanai Maya ruins.
