San Cas UB tops Orange Walk in basketball action
James Adderley
Good evening I’m James Adderley and you’ve locked in to another serving of Sports Monday. This weekend’s semi-pro basketball at the Civic Centre matched San Cas UB against Orange Walk Music Centre as both try to make the four team playoffs.
Mark Bainton of the Super City Team shows why he is called “Quickie” here as he gets the Music Centre rolling. He would lead the visitors with 17 points. The University’s answer came from Englebert Cherrington who reverses with the left hand for two. Nevertheless it’s the Orange Walk’s captain Roger Favela picking Dwight Myvette’s pocket and streaking down court for the easy lay as Orange Walk take a five point lead. It’s down to one when Eloy “The Admiral” Lamb lands this baseline jumper. Dwight Myvette then gives U.B. a three point lead by duplicating Claude “Too Tall” Jones quite efficiently. Meanwhile in mid air Harris Patten changes his mind which allows the Admiral Lamb to come up with the steal and finds Myvette with the long pass for the automatic deuce.
Talk about making that connection, Myvette spots Clinton Lamb Fuller with the alley hoop and the two hand slam is the result but at the half the score is knotted at 32 a piece.
Out of intermission Myvette comes out firing and he breaks the tie. For Orange Walk Favela finds this trick short that gets two more points. Myvette then steals the ball from Too Tall Jones and the half run down court is good for two. Myvette would finish with the point high 23 points.
Eloy Lamb benefits from a pick set by Angus Wallace Cherrington to knock down this long jumper. He’s touched for twelve big time points. However Derek Adderley ties the ballgame for Orange Walk with this offering around the stripe.
In money time, UB begins to pull away – Darwin Carter finds Dwight Myvette and he pulls up for two. The two American imports then combine their skill again and again its Myvette with the finish.
At the other end Too Tall Jones goes all the way for two, gets the bucket, picks up the foul and converts the three point play.
Too Tall then takes this cheap shot from Englebert Cherrington and has to be restrained from responding, but he would finish the game with 15 points. Still, the ball game belongs to UB and this slam conversion from Myvette puts Orange Walk away as the final scoreboard reads 77-64. UB wins!
In the other match up over the weekend, BTL Nets pounded Aba Iseni of Dangriga 74-68.
Jah, over all.”
