YMCA dance competition revs up Saturday
The Young Men Christian Association’s “Save the Last Dance” contest kicks off this weekend. It is a competition that requires an ear for music as well as talented feet. According to Carolyn Gentle, the YMCA’s Executive Director, proceeds from the event will help to develop programmes and facilities.

“It’s save the last dance, it’s at City Centre this Saturday, that’s tomorrow. We’re asking everybody to come out. It’s an event which the proceeds will be in aid of our YMCA youth, education, training and family centre, because right now we’re in a rented facility. But it’s a Latin competition, It’s a Latin dance competition of individual couples competing. We have a total of eleven thousand dollars plus in cash and prizes with first place going away with five thousand dollars. So there is no way you can miss it and if you do you’ll regret it. They’ll be dancing four compulsory songs and two individual of Latin, salsa, cumbia, rumba, tango, merengue “They’re ordinary people that love dancing and they are supporting the YMCA.”
Gentle says tickets are ten dollars each and the first dance starts at 7:00 Saturday night at the Belize City Centre.
