Two contracts signed for road upgrades
Contracts were signed today for the rehabilitation of several sections of road damaged by Hurricane Keith. The first, between government and Cisco Construction, covers improvements to the Western Highway and Coastal Road. This includes replacement of culverts between mile nine and ten on the Western Highway, as well as the paving of the first kilometre of the Coastal Road from the Western Highway through La Democracia. Thirty-six culverts will also be installed to improve drainage on the Coastal Road between mile four and twenty-eight. Cost of the project is two million, five hundred and eighty-nine thousand dollars.
On the Northern Highway the Bella Vista Development Company will be making much needed repairs between the roundabout and Haulover Bridge as well as selected areas of the old Northern Highway between miles seventeen and twenty-three. The company will also reinforce the riverbank between the Haulover and airport cut-off. This contract is valued at over three point three million dollars. Funds for both projects were made available from the Interamerican Development Bank under the twenty million U.S. dollar emergency reconstruction facility initiated in the wake of Hurricane Keith in October of last year.
