Fruit Vendor’s Van Destroyed by Fire
On Thursday night, just after eight, a vendor’s van was destroyed by fire in Belize City. Fifty-eight-year-old Barrington Usher of Saint Matthews Village told police that he was driving the van on Chetumal Street when it burst into flames. Usher reported that he saw a police check-point ahead of him, but traffic was flowing slowly so he decided to turn off the van’s ignition for about five minutes. After a few minutes, he turned the engine on and that is when he heard a loud bang coming from under the van’s bonnet. Smoke and fire were seen in the front part of the van. Usher quickly gathered his documents and got out safely. By the time fire officials arrived the vehicle was already destroyed. Police say that the vehicle is insured. The estimated value is around four thousand dollars.
