Air Jamaica looks to fly to Belize
Belizeans who study in Jamaica or travel frequently to the Caribbean will be happy to know that Air Jamaica may soon be opening a route between Belize and its hub in Montego Bay. A delegation from the Jamaican national carrier visited last week and presented a proposal for three times a week non-stop jet service with connections to other Air Jamaica destinations in the Caribbean, Europe and North America. If the details can be worked out, flights could begin as early as November. In related news American Airlines has replaced its ageing 727 aircraft with a new larger 757 on the Miami run and is said to be contemplating the addition of a second daily flight to cope with the added traffic during the winter tourist season. The only setback in the air travel industry seems to be the indefinite postponement of plans by Delta to open a route between Belize City and Atlanta. Recent labour troubles and a shortage of aircraft will likely delay the move until sometime next year.
