CARICOM Summit opens in Bahamas

Prime Minister Said Musa took his place among his fellow Caribbean leaders as the twenty-second CARICOM Summit opened in the Bahamas this evening. High on the meeting’s agenda are trade items, including steps toward the creation of a regional single market and economy. Belize, which has traditionally bought more from CARICOM than it sells, will try to redress that imbalance by lobbying for greater access to Caribbean markets, particularly for agricultural produce. The leaders are also expected to back a resolution expressing strong support for Belize in its negotiations with Guatemala.
