Bandits Set for Scotiabank CONCACAF League 2019

Ismael ‘Miley’ Garcia

The Belmopan Bandits are once again headed to the Scotiabank CONCACAF League, a tournament it will be participating in for the third time in a row.  Despite not having emerged victorious in previous outings, the team is poised to compete once again and called together the media this morning to announce that it has home advantage over Deportiva Saprissa.  The first match will be played against the Costa Rican sports club in Belmopan before heading over to the Central American country for an away game.  Under the leadership of Coach Leroy Sherrier Lewis, the announcement was made at the Princess Hotel by Bandits Communications Manager Ismael ‘Miley’ Garcia.

“We are about to participate for a third, consecutive, historic time in the Scotiabank CONCACAF League.  The Belmopan Bandits is the only team to participate for three consecutive times since the Scotiabank CONCACAF League was established.  We are playing against one of the powerhouses of Central America which is Deportivo Saprissa.  At the turn of the century, Deportivo Saprissa was classified by CONCACAF as the team of the century.  It’s an eighty-four-year-old club.  We are also very privileged that for the first time since our participation in the CONCACAF we are playing at home first.  This gives us clearly an advantage to get our fans out to the stadium and to have maybe an even better participation.  Last year, Bandits did a respectable showing.  We lost two to nothing in Honduras against Motagua and we lost one to nothing at home.  This year, under the able coaching staff led by Coach Leroy Sherrier, we are hoping that we can win our home game so that when we go to Costa Rica we are a little more comfortable already in the league.”
