Yabra and Belmopan will meet for football title

Good evening I’m James and we thank you for climbing aboard this journey on Sports Monday. The final week of the B.F.L. playoff schedule found Builders Hardware Bandits of Belmopan on the road in search of a championship appearance at the expense of Leslie’s Verdes.
The Bandits looking like a team on a mission pose for what they hope to be the perfect picture of a new beginning. And here’s the kick-off as the mad dash to the title series begins.
It’s early in the ballgame when Clifford Slusher squanders this scoring opportunity by holding his trigger too long. And while he feels he deserves a penalty, ain’t no call forthcoming from the referee David Jones.
On this offence press the Verdes striker does everything right except finish, and football is eventually measured by goals.
On the very next Bandits possession Julio Valle shows his scoring by this quick reaction goal that gives Belmopan the 1-zip lead to take to the locker room at the half.
In early second half play, Verdes gets this chance to half the deficit, but gets taken by Shane Moody. Does Verdes want to get on the scoreboard for real? When they fail to convert for point-blank range, right here, it leaves a how lot to be desired.
Denmark Casey then mounts this individual effort trying to get his team on the scoreboard, but he falls short. Okay, it’s another perfect scoring opportunity and can you believe Verdes comes away empty?
This time downfield Verdes attacks from the right side, but again it’s nothing doing. This disease even catches the Bandits for a while when they look this particular gift horse in the mouth.
However, the disease didn’t stay too long Belmopan as Edmund Pandy find the head of Robert Cunningham and Builders Hardware Bandits take a 2-zip lead just like that.
For sure people, Julio Valle has certainly blossomed into a legitimate B.F.L. star and this goal gives him much mileage, but more importantly it gives the Bandits a 3-zip big W and an automatic appearance in the three game championship finals.
In other results from around the league: Kulture Yabra crushed Sagitun 4-zip at Independence Saturday night, while Metro Stars finished the season with a 3-1 W over Juventus. Unfortunately it wasn’t good enough to get the Stars into the next orbit, so they are left out of the finals. The championship series gets off Sunday at the M.C.C. Grounds. Kulture Yabra plays host to Builders Hardware Bandits.
In the meantime folks, the saga of the embattled Dr. Chimilio, President of the B.N.F.A. continues. The good Dr. Bertie has been a victim of shifting alliances and changing momentum. Here’s what B.F.L. commissioner Maito Perdomo had to say to the media over the weekend.
Maito Perdomo, Commissioner, B.F.L.
“Really what happened, is he called a extraordinary general assembly meeting yesterday. He tried to call one last week at the San Ignacio Hotel and the executive did not show up, just himself and Mrs. Rodriguez from Cayo. Most of the assembly did show up last week, so we asked him to call another meeting the following week, which was yesterday. He called the meeting and I think we had a hundred percent attendance, and after discussing everything that was happening with him, especially the fact that his executive was falling apart; they were not agreeing, they couldn’t see eye to eye. The only thing that we could have done as the general assembly was to ask for the executive to be dissolved. A motion was moved and it was seconded, a unanimous vote came out of that. Everybody just wanted that executive to be dissolved, and hence we are here today and he has sixty days to call elections. For those sixty days he’s gonna hold on, along with Mr. Carlos Rodriguez, he was selected from among the delegates at the assembly to represent us along with himself to continued doing the business of the B.N.F.A.
Turning to basketball news, Sunday’s semipro action at the City centre found Data Pro Phoenix Raiders playing host to the University of Belize yesterday morning.
We join the action with U.B. down by ten, so the Raiders go to Lloyd Leslie, who lifts for three here. It’s more points for the Raiders as Fabian Pittman finds Bart Sanchez who gets two of his sixteen points with this move.
U.B.’s answer comes from three point range thanks to Darwin Carter, who would finish with twenty-one points, seven-assist. Dwight Myvette then takes on the entire Raiders defence to successfully go glass. And then this sweet move by Myvette gives U.B. its first lead of the night, but at the half it’s the Raiders up by three.
In second half action Dwight Myvette continues with his hot shooting. This three pointer gives U.B. a four point lead. Darwin Carter then lands this three-pointer as U.B. balloons the lead to seven points.
Now watch collaborative effort between Myvette and Carter, which yields two points and U.B. takes and eleven point lead. But don’t look now, here come the Raiders–Bart Sanchez–he strikes for three, while new semipro investor Santino Castillo takes in the hostilities from the bleachers.
Back to the game. Kirk Smith operates in the field to finish with a slam. He would tally twelve points, eight rebounds.
It’s getting late, Fabian Pittman, the point-guard for the Raiders, goes for three, gets it, he would finish with seventeen points. Kirk Smith then gives the Raiders the lead with this move in money time. And then this three pointer by Pittman seals the Raiders victory. The final score reads 75-72 in favour of Data Pro.
Hey folks, you know that registration for the Berger 404 Alumni/B.E.L. Summer Camp programme at the St. Martin de Porres field begins today Monday, July second and extends to the fourth. We remind parents that they must accompany their children when registering them for this particular programme and for sure the programme is guaranteed to provide fun and of course positive vibes for the Belizean youths.
