S&B Ministry Joins Forces with CitCo for Children of Belize City

With the date for the resumption of classless quickly approaching, assistance is on the way for deserving students. In the city, aside from the awarding of scholarships, school bags were gifted to a number of students. The programme is being undertaken by the Belize City Council and a U.S.-based organization led by Brenda August, who is a Belizean. Here is News Five’s Isani Cayetano with a report.

The Belize City Council in partnership with Sisters and Brothers Ministry in the United States are providing dozens of children from Belize City’s most impoverished communities with their necessities ahead of the new school year.  On Tuesday, kids from a number of south side neighbourhoods converged on Swift Hall to participate in an event planned by CitCo and S&B Ministry.  Organizer of the event is Brenda August, a Belizean living abroad.

“This is our second day here in Belize doing the ministry work that we’re doing and what we want to do, we want to serve the people of Belize.  S&B Ministry started way back in 2013 but this is the second year that we are servicing here in the city of Belize.  We’ve gone before to Cayo and Orange Walk and Bullet Tree and places like that where we provide the same service.  Our hope is to meet the people where they are and we wanted to help the children of Belize because I remember one time as a child here in Belize, I was basically in the same position where we didn’t have the necessities to go back to school with and things like that.  So my heart is here for my country and I just want to give back.”

On hand for the donation of stationery items was Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner.  He credited the yearly initiative to S&B and more particularly to Brenda August.

“We want to continue to invest in this program and I certainly want to thank the Sisters and Brothers Ministry.  Listen to me, these people, they are miles away from us and when I saw what Ms. Brenda was doing over the last couple of months, packing barrels after barrels after barrels of items and I would ask Ms. Brenda when I talked to her on the phone, “Ms. Brenda, why are you doing this?”  And she said it’s because God has told her to do this.  God has told her to do this for the children of Belize.”
