Unjustified Force by Police Officers Needs to be Addressed

According to Bradley, the case will be tried at the Supreme Court level. He says that the circumstances surrounding the case have undoubtedly left the public enraged. Major Junior is not the first victim who has been killed by a police officer. Bradley says that the Belize Police Department should apologize to the victim’s family first before providing financial compensation.

“When things like that happen, the decent thing to do in our society are that the authorities are to publicly apologize for the loss of life, they should not put the family through any lengthy court proceedings and pay compensation to the family, to the child  for losing a father and a husband. That is the proper, decent thing to do. The police are responsible for the loss of life. You have seen the images and heard the outcry when images which shows of a police officer choking a citizen who turned out to be a police. The choked him until he became unconscious. That is totally unacceptable and nothing that been done about that. Prior to that you all know that in Orange Walk members of our army and police were charged for murder, for beating a man to death, for beating a human being until he is so broken and bust up he dies. They were charged with murder and nothing has come out of the matter. Those things are sending the wrong signals in the society. A judge will take into accounts a number of factors, including the officer’s background, his history and the circumstance of causing death. So sentencing is really when the matter completes.”
