No Evidence to Arrest Suspects in Murder of Porfilio Nino
The gruesome murder of sixty-four-year-old Porfilio Nino whose remains were found inside a shallow grave in Maya Mopan remains unsolved. Despite rounding up several persons for questioning in relation to the homicide, Belmopan police are no closer to making an arrest. That’s because there was insufficient evidence to tie any of the suspects to Nino’s death. The decomposed body of the elderly farmer was unearthed from a makeshift burial plot on his property after his family members recovered a prosthetic leg belonging to Nino. He had been missing for days and the family believes they know who killed the sixty-four-year-old.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head National Crimes Investigation Branch
“So far there is no new update, we are still continuing with our investigations. Those persons whom we had in our custody had had to be released pending further investigation as there was not a sufficient amount of evidence to prefer any charges against them at this time.”
Porfilio Nino was stabbed multiple times behind the neck; however, his cause of death is listed as blunt force trauma.
