Ship still stuck at English Caye
Many Belizean importers are still literally waiting for their ship to come in. The ship in question, The Atlantis, remains stuck high and dry on the edge of the harbour channel near English Caye. The cargo vessel, which runs to Belize weekly from Miami, went aground early Monday morning after its rudder became stuck due to a mechanical failure. Shipping sources tell News 5 that efforts to tow the Atlantis off the sand have been unsuccessful and that a large tug is on the way from Panama.
