A Few More Details but No Arrest in Murder of Darwin Rocke

Darwin Rocke

Thirty-four-year-old Belize City resident Darwin Rocke was callously murdered. His body was found dumped far away between Burrell Boom and Hattieville, last Thursday. Rocke was partially decapitated and one of his hands was severed. While it is believed he knew his killers, there have been no arrests so far in Rocke’s murder. News Five Isani Cayetano has an update on the latest murder victim.

A shocking discovery was made last Thursday near Burrell Boom Village when residents picked up on a fetid odor coming from an area not too far away.  When the police were called in to investigate the source of the stench, the officers happened upon the decomposing remains of thirty-four-year-old Darwin Rocke.  It appears that he may have been killed elsewhere and his body dumped along the stretch of road between Boom and Hattieville.  It is a working theory that Crimes Investigation Branch of the police department is looking into.

Supt. Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Belize City

“We are still working on that case.  We are concentrating our efforts in Belize City as we suspect that the primary scene is here in Belize City, but we are still determining the area as to where the incident actually occurred.”

All indications are that Rocke may have been familiar with his killers.  In the wake of the murder, it was learned that several of his household appliances had been left on at his residence in Belize City.  That tidbit only serves to strengthen investigators’ belief that the gruesome murder in which Rocke was partially decapitated may not have occurred where the rotting corpse was later found.

“Yeah, we believe that he might have known the persons who actually removed him from Belize City and took him to that location.”

Despite an ongoing probe into the murder of Darwin Rocke, police are no closer to making an arrest.  He was found wrapped in plastic and tarp and following an onsite autopsy, it was determined that he died of asphyxia due to the large cut wound he sustained on the neck.

“No word yet, or no leads as to where he might have been assaulted or killed and then subsequently dumped near the Burrell Boom Bridge?”

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“We have some information that we are following up at this moment.”

Reporter

“Have we discussed a motive as yet?”

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“No, we have not established a motive as yet.”

Rocke’s violent end included the severing of one of his hands.  According to his mother, she had last spoken with him on July twenty-ninth and their conversation was about finding a place for a friend of his to rent.  His body was discovered three days later.
