BOWAND plans fundraising telethon
The Belize Organisation for Women and Development, like any other non-governmental organisation, is not immune to the problem of limited financial resources. In an effort to stretch their dollars while serving the community’s needs, BOWAND has planned a live radio telethon for Saturday, June thirtieth at the Belize Bank downtown. According to public awareness officer Dianne Finnegan, the monies raised will assist BOWAND to expand its outreach programmes.

“It’s basically to get some funds to help with some of the programmes we are trying to incorporate within BOWAND’s work plan for 2001-2003. It’s also to create some publicity for the organisation and to get back on track. We have been going a little slow since last year, but we want to get things moving and we thought that this will be a good way to start off.”

“How will the telethon work and who can contribute?”
Dianne Finnegan
“It’s open to the general public, so anybody and any contribution that they want to give is well appreciated. To get in touch with us, we will be out at the Belize Bank on Saturday June thirtieth from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. BTL operators will be out there manning the phones for us. At present, we have a lot of letters out to the different business places and we are asking that they kindly assist us with whatever contribution they can.
I’m encouraging women to do their housework from Friday. There’s no need to cook because we’ll have a turkey dinner going on out there, we’ll have raffles, a lot of entertainment. A band will be out there, the Heavenlies Band, the Grace Primary Steel Band and also music entertainment for the entire family. So we are sort of encouraging everyone to come out, man, woman, children, to come out and be a part of it.”
If you’d like to make a pledge to BOWAND’s cause, the telethon runs from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Belize Bank’s parking lot. That’s next Saturday, June thirtieth.
