Counterfeit bills spread to P.G.

More counterfeit money continues to show up in cash registers across the country. The latest discovery occurred in Punta Gorda where Felix Flores, the proprietor of a local sports bar, went to make a bank deposit only to be informed that one of his hundred dollar bills was a phoney. Flores reported to police that the bogus blue note, serial number AC559325, came into his possession on the night of June eleventh when a BDF soldier used it to pay for four Guinness stouts. While it is clear that the latest batch of phoney currency has travelled far, it is not clear how large a quantity was put in circulation. The problem is that while ample publicity has made most Belizeans aware of the counterfeit problem, those people who have already unwittingly accepted the bad bills are in a bind. They can either turn the funny money into authorities–thus losing it–or they can try to make the best of a bad situation–by spending it as fast as possible, preferably in a dimly lit bar. Police continue to trace the half dozen or so specimen collected thus far, but have not yet made any arrests.
