DYS Celebrates International Youth Day with a Website Launch

To commemorate International Youth Day, the Department of Youth Services hosted an Open Day at all of its youth centers countrywide. The day was used to showcase services that the DYS offers to young people in Belize. Today, we stopped in at the office on Regent Street in Belize City where they launched an updated, easy-to-use and mobile friendly DYS website. Here’s more about today’s event from PR Officer Renata Samuels.

Renata Samuels, PR Officer, DYS

“So, we show basically different booths on the services that we offer to young people. We have partnering agencies that have their booths with information and registration. We have different courses, like here for Belize City, barbering, hair braiding, and massages and so forth that they these young people have been learning over the summer.  So, a lot of young people are here. They are just strolling through. There are arts and piano classes that you can actually go and learn right now. We have free recording, as well. So, there is a lot of thing that you can actually access. We have small businesses like A&S Covers and Kisses & Bites that have their products on display. So, you can sign up. There is so much things, as you walk down the avenue there is something for you.”

“So, talk to us about this website. I know that it is a major accomplishment for the DYS?”

Renata Samuels

“Yes! So, we are so excited about our website because it is like the central hub to see all the services, and everything about the DYS; the mission; the vision; our strategic plan is also on the website. You can go to our youth directory. There is a link if you want to sign up for youth awards with all the requirements. Everything that you want to know about the DYS is right there on the website.  So, it is easy and accessible for young people.”
