Body of Dangriga Native Found Headless
The body of Derrick Ramirez was found this morning. Ramirez, a native of Dangriga, had allegedly gone missing while at Cross Caye, north of Dangriga Town on Sunday, August fourth. The events leading up to his disappearance have investigators, including Commissioner Chester Williams, extremely skeptical. Ramirez’s body was reportedly found decapitated in the GraGra Lagoon near Dangriga Town. While police were unable to confirm the identity of Ramirez, this afternoon his father, Guillermo Ramirez, told News Five that he personally identified the body. Guillermo recognized the body of his son by the clothes, a wrist watch and the tattoos on his leg. He believes that his son’s head was severed.
On the Phone: Guillermo Ramirez, Father of Derrick Ramirez
“The body was already decomposed so we recognized him by the clothes he have on and the watch and the tattoos that he has on his leg. He has a tattoo close to his leg. It didn’t have any head. I think they cut it off because the way I see is that they cut off his head my son had on dreads hair and they didn’t want us to recognize him.”

“Were there any other signs of violence that you saw on the body?”
On the Phone: Guillermo Ramirez
“No because everything was already decomposed. They have to do to the post mortem first before they move the body from there.”
Ramirez had left to Cross Caye on a diving trip with his brother Kevin Hernandez and another relative when Ramirez reportedly came under gunfire twice by three other men. On the second occasion, the men reportedly shot at Ramirez while on the caye, causing Ramirez to escape into the mangroves. He did not reappear. Coast Guard officials had detained three persons and handed over to Dangriga police but the main suspect Oscar Williams was removed from the jail cell and taken to Cross Caye. A handcuffed Williams reportedly managed to escape but the Police Commissioner is not buying that story and both criminal and internal investigations have been launched. The two cops responsible for Williams alleged escaped have been interdicted and placed on administrative leave.
