Race for football title tightens

Story Picture
Good evening I’m James Adderley and you’ve stopped in for another ride on Sports Monday. Yesterday Kulture Yabra took to the M.C.C. Grounds against Builders Hardware Bandits in an effort to rebound after its first playoff loss last week, while the visitors were in town to keep this championship hopes alive.

With the stakes this high, it is no surprise that the competition is brutally physical. Sidney Bladden’s blood reinforced this basic fact, but he would be back after a bit of cleaning up.

Nevertheless, its Kulture Yabra with the opportunity to open the scoreboard, but Norman Nunez’s shot is blocked at the very last moment. It’s more Tilliman Nunez when he fires with the left foot, but Shane Moody comes up with the save.

Can you believe this sequence in front of the Belmopan goal? Chalk it up to another squander by the Yabra offence. Belmopan then gets busy off this centre that provides a challenge for Charlie Slusher, which he passes.

Now keep your eyes on this spotkick from midfield. Julio Valle floats to Ismael John Trapp, who beats Slusher to the ball and heads it home for the 1-zip Bandits lead.

This push was perfect to give the visitors a quick 2-zip lead, but Julio Valle fails to execute the finish and at the half it’s a 1-zip Bandits lead.

So we go to second half and Deon Flowers, fresh off the bench mounts this individual move that could have paid dividends, but didn’t. Downfield the visitors get another scoring opportunity, but the shot is right at Charlie Slusher.

Yabra nevertheless keeps looking for the equaliser, so they find Nunez, but his offering can’t get past Shane Moody.

Can you believe three Yabra strikers simply can’t get to this ball on this push from Tilliman Nunez?

Belmopan’s imported striker gets his shot to close the show for Belmopan, but his offering rises over the crossbar.

It’s getting late for Yabra, so Kello Leslie goes to the bicycle kick, but nothing doing. And when Rupert Vicente, who issued out a record thirteen cards, including two red, blows the big whistle, the Bandits take a crucial 1-zip victory. Yabra still stays atop the standings, but two losses in two weekends is bad news.

In other action around the league, Metro Stars slipped away Saturday night from Independence with a 1-zip overtime win over Sagitun, but nobody was ready for the post game violence that saw a referee get slapped and a player get his head busted. We are gonna keep you updated. Meanwhile, out at Orange Walk yesterday Leslie’s Verdes edged Juventus 3-2 in regulation play.

In other football news, the Berger 404 Youth Summer Camp makes its annual appearance in two weeks time and we caught up with Berger president Emmerson Guild.

Emerson Gill, Berger President

“We want to do it with a bigger bang this year and we have some new stuff coming in, so we’ll be looking forward to that. Our camp officially opens July second with four days of orientation and registration. We want to meet all the parents of the kids this time around, as we’re beginning a serious database concerning each kid and how they perform. We’re asking a five dollar registration fee this year, so that we can give child an identification card that will continue to work throughout the camp process. I believe we will be doing this in Belize forevermore, so we’re beginning to prepare ourselves like that.”

We certainly want to encourage to youths to participate in the Berger 404 Summer Camp and we wish them maximum success.
