10 More Breathalyzers for Police Department

A donation of ten breathalyzers was handed over to the Belize Police Department this afternoon at the Raccoon Street Headquarters in Belize City.  The apparatus used to measure blood alcohol concentration will be distributed to various formations across the country and was gifted to the department by attorney Christopher Coye.  The donation comes at a time when there has been an increase in the number of road traffic accidents.

“It’s always a great pleasure when we have civic minded citizens who feel obligated in assisting the police in the prevention of the loss of lives on our highways and across this country.  And this public/private partnership that I’ve always enjoyed with Senor Christopher Coye yields again a handsome donation of ten breathalyzers that will enable the police department to do tests on drivers to ensure that they are not under the influence of drugs and alcohol driving on our highways and creating havoc and taking away the lives of loved ones.  So I want to really, on behalf of the Belize Police Department, the Commissioner of Police and the ministry, thank Christopher Coye for this wonderful donation and I am sure that it will be put to good use by members of the Belize Police Department that will be able to utilize this donation to prevent the loss of lives.”

“The value is four thousand dollars.  Why breathalyzers?  I mean, I think, we see in the news so often, so regularly the road traffic accidents and the question as to the cause of these road traffic accidents.  But certainly, drunk driving is significant factor that plays into this, so we want to see how we can contribute towards reducing the prevalence of that kind of incident.”
