Main Suspect for Derrick Ramirez’s Murder Alive and At-Large
The man believed to be the ring leader in the killing of Derrick Ramirez is alive. This is according to Commissioner of Police Chester Williams who, last week, alluded that the life of Oscar Williams Junior may have ended prematurely at Cross Caye. Ramirez went missing on August fourth at Cross Caye and was found on Monday, August twelfth in the GraGra Lagoon area of Dangriga. He came under gunfire while on a diving trip with his brother Kevin Hernandez and Joseph Coleman. Hernandez told police that Ramirez was shot at by three men. These three men were arrested by coastguard officials and handed over to police. But two police officers decided to remove Williams Junior from detention and take him to the spot where Ramirez went missing. Officers on the island heard screaming and later the two officers returned to the police station, explaining that a handcuffed Williams managed to escape. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams provided an update.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“At this time other that the fact that the post mortem has been conducted and the doctor has certified the cause of death. We can say safely now that it is a case of murder. We are still looking for Oscar Williams who is still at large or still missing. We are hoping that we can find and from what I have been told that he is alive I am hoping that we can find him and we’ll be able to move forward with that investigation.”
Hipolito Novelo
“Can you confirm whether or not Ramirez’s body was found without a head?”
Chester Williams
“I am not going to go into those details.”
Hipolito Novelo
“In terms of the Mr. Williams, do you believe that he has escaped the country to Honduras or the neighboring country?”
Chester Williams
“I am not going to say that at this time either.”
Hipolito Novelo
“We received information that he may have had help from criminal elements in Dangriga. Has the department received that information as yet?”
Chester Williams
“No. We hear rumors here and there but we don’t operate base on rumors. We need solid facts.”
Hipolito Novelo
“What is the status of the two police officers who are under investigation for his disappearance?”
Chester Williams
“The senior officer remains on administrative leave and the constable remains on interdiction.”
Hipolito Novelo
“Do you foresee any criminal charges brought against them?”
Chester Williams
“It depends on how Williams is. If Williams is alive then no but if not then we have to see where we go from there.”
Hipolito Novelo
“Last week you seemed to believe that something else had happened to Williams and now you believe that he is alive. What changed?”
Chester Williams
“I have received credible information that he is alive.”
