Police Detain One Man for Stephan McLaren’s Murder
Twenty-year-old Stephan McLaren was executed in broad daylight on Monday afternoon in Belize City. He was standing at the corners of Cleghorn Street and New Road in the company of Karon Gladden when they were blindsided by a lone gunman who shot McLaren in the back of the head at close range. Gladden was also injured in the left hand as a result of the shooting. Tonight, police have one man in custody; however, there isn’t sufficient evidence with which to charge him for McLaren’s murder.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“I know police have one person in custody that we are questioning. That person remains in custody but there has been nothing, no solid lead to say well we will be able to charge that person at this time. So the investigation continues.”
Hipolito Novelo
“What about the motive?”
Chester Williams
“The motive is drug-related.”
It is believed that McLaren’s death stems from the sale of marijuana in the vicinity where he was fatally shot.
