Health Minister applauds Commission of Inquiry
As for the Commission of Inquiry, the report of the three man panel should be presented to the Prime Minister by the end of the week. Meanwhile, Minister of Health Jose Coye believes that it was important that the public had the opportunity to hear the testimony.
Jose Coye, Min. of Health
“To have a Commission of Inquiry to me was a good step. Now, I just have to wait to hear the findings of the Commission of Inquiry. I trust that the findings will be what it is. I have confidence in the people who sit on the inquiry. From what I have been getting from through you all, the press, it seems that it was very transparent and that everybody was indeed given the opportunity to ask questions. Some people even said, “why is it that the chairman of the commission is speaking to the press…”
Ann-Marie Williams
“But that’s the right thing to do.”
Jose Coye
“I said fine, that’s good, that’s what we want. We want him to be able to speak to the press. Certainly as to the conclusion, he cannot say that because it’s three of them.”
Ann-Marie Williams
“But what do you make of the fact that nobody actually owned up to what happened and it had to be taken to a public hearing?”
Jose Coye
“I think that’s a matter of not only the individual that may be involved in this particular case. I think we are dealing with a much bigger problem there. It’s a question of our culture, our ethics, our value system, maybe that’s what we’ll need to look at maybe what is happening is a reflection of the whole country.”
After receiving the report, the Prime Minister may take whatever action he deems necessary.
