Moises Flores gets Two Years for Sexual Assault
A man is serving two years behind bars after he was found guilty of sexually molesting an eight-year-old girl. Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford convicted Moises Flores, a Belize City resident, of the crime this morning. The assault upon the minor is reported to have occurred sometime in May or June of 2017, when the child was eight years old. Without going into the disturbing details of the assault, the report indicates that the child was home. Her mother was doing laundry outside when Flores came into the house. He lay down beside the child on a bed and that is where he molested her. When he was done, he reportedly threatened the child with killing her entire family if she told anyone. Fearing for her safety and that of her family, she kept silent for some time until she finally told her sister and the matter was reported to the police. Flores maintained he is innocent. However, Senior Magistrate Ford told him that she did not believe his version of the incident. He questioned the absence of evidence but Senior Magistrate Ford explained that it was not necessary to substantiate the charge, adding that the child’s account of the incident was very compelling and that the evidence against him was overwhelming to prove the charge. After considering that Flores was a first time offender with no previous sexual offense convictions, Senior Magistrate Ford sentenced him to two years in prison. Flores was unrepresented.
