Unrest at Princess Royal Youth Hostel

There was another disturbance at the Princess Royal Youth Hostel on Tuesday night where police officers were called in to assist with a group of unruly girls.  During their response, the police mobile was stoned and damaged and six girls managed to escape from the facility.  While those girls have since been recaptured, Commissioner Chester Williams says that criminal charges will be brought against those found culpable for the damages to the vehicle.  Beyond the unrest however, the ComPol says that something needs to be done urgently at the hostel in order to mitigate the recent spate of breakouts.

“I had said to my officers that we need to do something where youth hostel is concerned and I had tasked Mr. Vidal and Mr. Dawson to go and meet with the administrators of the youth hostel to see what can be done to prevent this constant escape.  I know there was a situation there last night again where the police went in and the police vehicle was stoned and damaged.  I have given instructions to my officers that those persons who are responsible for the damage of the police vehicle will be charged and will be taken before the court.  As it relates to the matter of the escape, it’s a matter for the administrators of the institution to request court action against these individuals.  That has not yet been done.  I am hoping that it will be done.  Last night we recaptured six who had escaped, so it is becoming too regular and we believe that something needs to be done to make the institution more safer to be able to prevent these constant acts from occurring.”

Authorities at the Hostel, have not made any comment on the latest escape staged by the girls.
