Yaya Marin Coleman Rings the Bell for African Descendants in Belize

Chairperson of the United Black Association for Development, Yaya Marin Coleman today protested the two-day conference saying that the discussions held do not truly represent the interest of the black community in Belize.  Coleman stood alone at the Biltmore where the conference was held for nine hours in protest of the meeting. She says she is ringing the alarm to let grassroots people realize what is being discussed and agreed during these meetings.

“The concern I am saying to Belizeans is that there is nowhere that the state can outsource that responsibility and not communicate with the African people in Belize in particular. I don’t know what those people are agreeing to in there. We don’t know who are on the national commission. I am holding the state responsible as well as the people in there because I am not with it. If the OAS, SICA and CABO, were doing what they say what they are doing the quality of life of African people in the region would have definitely improved to where we can measure it and see it.”

“No. If you are not having those sort of meaningful consultation, people don’t even know this is happening. They don’t have information and that is why I hold the state responsible. I am just out there ringing the bell saying that African people in Belize, this is what is happening. Pay attention.”
