The Search Continues for Main Suspect in the Shooting of Belmopan Mechanic
Police are also searching for Anthony Williams; he is the main suspect in the attempted murder of Brian Chavarria in Belmopan. On Monday night around eight o’clock, Chavarria was conversing with a group of men, including Williams, in front of his mechanic shop on Sinsonte Street in the Capital City. An altercation, allegedly over putting an end to selling weed at his business, ensued. Williams left and shortly after returned with a gun which was used on Chavarria. The forty-four-year-old mechanic remains in a critical condition at the Western Regional Hospital. Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvett says that investigators have been unable to locate the main suspect.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“So far, we still continue to seek one person in relation to that investigation which is the shooting of Brian Chavarria which occurred on Monday last, I believe. That person is still not yet in our custody.”
Duane Moody
“Sir, can police speak to the motive of that shooting and if in fact the person that is wanted in that incident is from Belize City?”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“No, I will not go into where he is from other than to say that what was reported is that a group of persons were socializing along with Mister Chavarria at his home where apparently an argument started and they were asked to leave. Shortly thereafter, one of those male persons then returned and continued this argument with Mister Chavarria resulting in the said male person taking out a firearm and firing that shot towards Mister Chavarria.”
Duane Moody
“Sir can you say whether the investigators have gathered information that would suggest that the shooting may be connected to drugs?”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“Not at this point.”
