Belize City man dies in hail of bullets

Story Picture
Monday’s newscast and murder usually go hand in hand and tonight is no exception. Ann-Marie Williams reports on the latest carnage in Belize City, which involves a victim who never saw it coming and a killer who had no shortage of ammunition.

“Twenty-five year old Kevin Carr was gunned down in his own yard last night. According to an eyewitness, a masked man approached him and pumped a slew of bullets into his body. He collapse and later died, leaving behind a pool of blood.”

The incident occurred at 59 Tigris Street around ten minutes to midnight. According to Carr’s cousin, Anthony Carballo, who lives next door, he had just spoken to Carr seconds before shots rang out.

Anthony Carballo, Cousin of the Deceased

“No longer than five, ten seconds I heard the first shot ring, but I thought he must be playing with a gun. But afterwards, I heard five, six, seven, up to about eleven shots one after the other. I was like “damn, my nigger got shot.” But at the same time I still did not believe because I didn’t hear any noise. I heard him yell the F word about three times, then I knew he got shot because he started crying like a baby. I said anybody who got shot would cry like that.”

“Where were you at that time?”

Anthony Carballo

“I was in my house.”

Ann-Marie Williams

“Did you look out?”

Anthony Carballo

“Lookout for what? For a lead? When the magazine empty, when the eighteen shots…I would say it’s an eighteen shooter because it was a nine millimetre. When I heard it empty was because I heard snap, snap, because the clip’s empty. After that listened to hear if the person went outside. I have two pallets in my alley mouth and I heard it rumble, so I said the young man left. I came outside and hollered for my old lady. I checked his pulse, but I didn’t really find his pulse, so I checked by his heart and when I went to feel his heart, my thumb sunk in a hole. When I lifted his shirt, he had a big hole right here.” So I told my mom he was dead.”

And his death, although tragic for his guardian Elsiemae Patterson, wasn’t all that surprising.

Elsiemae Patterson, Guardian of the Deceased

“Two months before he said “they want to kill him. Miss Elsie they want to kill me. I asked him who and he said and he just said some boy that he had “beef” with. The young man once juk (stabbed) him in his shoulder before and I took him to the hospital. But after that he didn’t talk to me and tell me anything more.”

Ann-Marie Williams

“This was the same young man he said wanted to kill him?”

Elsiemae Patterson

“Yes. But he didn’t give and name.”

Ann-Marie Williams

“You didn’t report it?”

Elsiemae Patterson

“No, he didn’t want to.”

Patterson said she’s not certain why he was gunned down in cold blood or why the gunmen sprayed bullets all over the fence. However, word on the street is that he had a “beef” with the killer, who waited for him in the yard. Ann-Marie Williams for News 5.

Kevin Carr was deported from the United States around a year ago.
