NEMO issue precautionary notice for hurricane season
Belize has been spared of hurricanes in the recent past, but the National Emergency Management Organization, NEMO is not letting its guard down. NEMO is strongly advising government line ministries and its emergency committees to convene meetings and identify necessary logistics in their plans as the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea are now showing signs of activity. It also advises the public to prepare for disasters by stocking up on food supplies and water, reinforce the safety of their homes and review emergency plans with their families. It also encourages fishers and farmers to actively listen to their radios for weather updates and advisories before venturing out to sea or farms. NEMO adds that it is important to be prepared as “historically for Belize, we are heading into the most devastating period of the season.”
