Accused Drug Trafficker Executed in Own Home

A Santa Elena man was ambushed and executed on Sunday night inside his house. He is Nelson Flores, who is no stranger to the law and has two drug convictions. Flores was in his living room with his family when a gunman entered his house through the back door. The gunman shot Flores multiple times and he succumbed hours later at the hospital. In the mayhem, his twelve-year-old daughter was injured and remains hospitalized. A search of the house yielded a quantity of weed. Police cannot confirm yet the motive for Sunday night’s murder. Here is Hipolito Novelo with the following report.

It was early on Sunday night, that a man dressed in full black clothing and wearing a motorcycle helmet entered through the rear door of this residence on George Price Avenue in Santa Elena. Nelson Flores and his family were at home when this mysterious and ominous figure came barging in.  It was at around nine o’clock when San Ignacio police were alerted of a shooting in that area.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

ACP Joseph Myvett

“Last night shortly after nine p.m., San Ignacio Police was called to the home of Nelson Flores in Santa Elena Town where upon arrival they learned of a shooting that occurred earlier. What was reported to the police is that Mr. Flores along with his family was at home when a male person dressed in black clothing, wearing a motorcycle helmet entered the home through the back door, inquiring about Mr. Flores.”

The armed intruder was there to execute Flores whose fourteen-year-old son attempted to prevent.

“In the process, he got into a struggle with Mr. Flores’s fourteen-year-old son and from there he made his way into the living room where he fired several shots injuring both Nelson and his twelve-year-old daughter.”

Both were taken to the San Ignacio Community Hospital where Flores died a few hours later. His daughter is listed in a stable condition. Investigators are looking for one suspect known to police. Allegations are that Nelson was a well-known underworld figure in the area. While investigators have not established a motive, today ACP Joseph Myvett told the media that several many amounts of marijuana were found inside the house.

“At this point no police has not yet been able to establish a motive. The processing of the scene though, I must mention, did reveal some different amounts of marijuana which has not yet been processed.”

“Just last week we spoke with the ComPol about violent crimes associated with the trafficking of marijuana, is this drug-related?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“At this point in time, no we have not been able to establish a motive.”

Reporter

“We had received information that Mr. Flores was as a dealer of some sort in the San Ignacio area.”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“What I can say though is that his house was searched several times and he has a matter before the court in relations to drugs.”

In April 2018, Flores was arrested and charged with drug trafficking after police caught him throwing seventy-eight grams of marijuana out his bathroom window. Later that same year, in November, police busted Flores and three others with nine hundred and ninety grams of marijuana. The drug was hidden under his house.
