Dwayne Cherrington is Shot by Motorist Near Dream Like City
There was also gun violence in the city. Thirty-one-year-old Dwayne Cherrington was shot by an unknown motorist sometime after midnight on Tuesday in the vicinity of Dream Like City and Belize Mills Limited. Cherrington was reportedly returning from his grandmother’s residence and was driving along that stretch of the Phillip Goldson Highway when he attempted to overtake a white cargo truck that was veering across the highway. The driver of the vehicle would not allow him to go past and when he came to a stop not far from the nightclub, Cherrington said he alighted his vehicle to approach the driver of the cargo truck. That’s when the driver reportedly produced a firearm and shot him in the left leg. While investigators are looking into the shooting incident, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams says there is very little to go by.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“According to the young man, he was driving on the Phillip Goldson Highway between the Belcan roundabout and [Dream Like City], when a vehicle was in front of him and he sought to overtake vehicle and the driver of the vehicle which was a truck prevented him from overtaking. Subsequently the vehicle went and parked in front of the flour mill and he went in front of Dream Like City and parked. According to him, he came out of his vehicle and went after the vehicle that was preventing him from overtaking and when he got beside the vehicle he saw a Hispanic person inside, the person had a firearm and he said when he saw the firearm with the person he turned around and that’s when he heard a gunshot and realized that he was shot in his foot. We are trying to identify who was in that vehicle, as well as to find out who owns the vehicle, where is the vehicle. The victim was unable to get a license plate so not even that we have to be able to guide us, but at this time there is little or no information other than what he has said the police have been able to obtain at this time.”
