An alleged burglar arrives in court in wheelchair

A burglary at the home of a teacher ended badly for one of two accused burglars. Thirty-six-year-old Security guard, Leon Duncan, a Ladyville resident, arrived in court this morning in a wheelchair. He appeared before Senior Magistrate, Tricia Pitts-Anderson. Duncan reportedly stole eight thousand six hundred dollars worth of items from the Belize City home of Melvin Armstrong but he pleaded not guilty. He told the court that the police had injured him and he had undergone foot surgery. Duncan was offered bail in the sum of three thousand dollars plus two sureties of one thousand five hundred dollars each with conditions to keep away from the virtual complainant and witnesses. Before leaving the court room, Senior Magistrate, Anderson advised Duncan to get medical assistance for his injuries and that complaints against the police be made to the Professional Standard Branch. According to reports, Armstrong arrived at his home past midnight and caught two men running out of his house. He set chase behind them and caught up with Duncan. Armstrong says he was able to hold down Duncan who had scaled the fence. Police were able to detain Duncan at the scene.
