Families of accused Mexicans seek meeting with Attorney Dickie Bradley; they allege police abuse
Following today’s adjournment, Attorney Dickie Bradley told us that the families of the Mexican nationals implicated in this case have requested a meeting. The men, Eli Figueroa Nunez and Azarias Manzano, have maintained their innocence and their families remain gravely concerned, since there are allegations that the men were badly beaten by police.
Dickie Bradley, Attorney at law
“Those two persons were picked up near the scene of the illegal airstrip and that as the information discloses there was gunfire between whoever was presumably working for those who sent drugs on the plane and our law enforcement officials. I understand there was like a twenty, thirty minute shootout going on, just like in the movies. No person has been caught who were involved in the shootout, as far as I know but I stand corrected. No, what you would call expended shells have been recovered from all these high-powered machine guns that were keeping the security at bay. No vehicle has been impounded from any of these Mexicans and the information from the police is that all those persons fled and escaped. It’s incredible that we know a plane is coming, we are waiting for it and they have all escaped. These two peasants who were working they didn’t flee. The border is just down the street there. They need to run into the bush and flee. So that is an interesting matter I think a court would take into the account. Another thing I want to say on their behalf, which is a disgrace, is that those two men were beaten until they were coughing blood. Blood was coming through their noses, the two Mexicans. They complained of receiving a horrific beating and still there is no written confession from any of them. Ih really sound bad when you hear the family say this is what has happened. One of those persons in prison is constantly under medication because of the after effects of the kicking and stomping and beating.”
