Bar owner describes events that night
One person who will figure prominently in the investigation is the man who owns Raul’s Rose Garden and was present on the night of the incident. This afternoon Raul Magaña told Ann-Marie what he saw and how it was that four teenagers came to be patrons in his nightspot.

“We had a group of probably thirty-five Gurkha soldiers in the bar, another thirty-five to forty British soldiers, and we had our usual activity happening, a show going on. About 1:30 in the morning a fight broke out around the stage where a group of soldiers were dancing. Their fight then proceeded to the exit door, the front entrance. We understood later on Belizeans were badly hurt in the fight.”
“My security explained to me after that he was trying to stop the soldiers from beating the Belizeans and the others that were along with David managed to run to their cars and drove off leaving David behind. David was unable to move so he ran back into the building.”
“When you’re in the position of being a security at a door you tend to go with who looks older or younger. It’s actually the responsibility of the security person to stop a younger person from coming in or allowing an older person to come in. However, I spoke to him and he said all the boys looked old enough to come in the club.”

“Are you planning to maybe institute an I.D. system for people who look questionable in terms of their age? Have you thought about it?

“Obviously. We are now putting more attention to it. In other words, I have told my security he needs to judge people more seriously if they look younger then the age of eighteen he needs to ask for an I.D.”
