P.S.U. is Issued Eviction Notice
Last November, the Public Service Union learnt that its Belmopan Hilltop headquarters had been sold from under their feet by the Belmopan City Council. It was acquired by a Chinese businessman from a Corozal company, Simplex Designs Limited. There was consternation from the P.S.U. with the Belmopan City Council and despite meetings; they were unable to get back the property. At some stage, the Prime Minister promised to assist the union, but the City Council did not budge. Late last week, Attorney Estevan Perrera wrote to the union to remind them that on national television it indicated it would be relocating from the Hilltop property but has not done so in a timely fashion. Perrera gives the P.S.U. a thirty-day period to move, failure to so do by October thirty-first, 2019 will result in eviction. The letter dated September twenty-sixth states, “If you fail to vacate the property on or October thirty-first, 2019, our client has instructed us to file a claim against the Public Service Union, wherein we will seek an eviction order from the court in addition to our legal cost and rent.” So there you have it, the new over of the property is pressing ahead.
