Tribunal Concludes: Fate of 3 Cops in Nestor Vasquez’s Case Announced

Nestor Vasquez Jr.

The Commissioner of Police says that the cops, who were placed on interdiction in connection with the death of sixty-year-old Nestor Vasquez Junior, have been found guilty by a tribunal. The police officers from Precinct three, Sergeant Shawn Walton and Police Constables Edward Pitterson and Bernard Cayetano were put on interdiction with half-pay and faced disciplinary charges.  A final decision has now been made to dismiss the officers.  Vasquez succumbed to massive head injuries he received inside a holding cell back in June.  Vasquez, who was mentally ill, was taken into police custody on the request of his younger brother pending treatment for his illness.  While in detention, Vasquez was placed inside a lockup with mental health patient, Collin Francis. Here’s more from Williams.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“The tribunal in that matter has been heard and the officers in question were all found guilty. The adjudicator has since recommended their dismissal. How that works is that the notes of evidence comes to the commissioner’s office and we forward it to the officer of the solicitor general because by virtue of the police act, once it comes to dismissal or reversion in rank it must be affirmed by the solicitor general. So, it will be sent to solicitor general for confirmation. As the commissioner, I am in agreement with the findings of the adjudicator and the sentence the adjudicator has demitted where those officers are concerned.”
