A magical night of music with Nelita

She’s been blessed with the gift of singing and will present it at a special
magical night of music. Ann-Marie Williams found her preparing. Ann-Marie

After a four-year absence from the musical scene, Belizean entertainer
Nelita Castillo is back–cabaret style; in a night of magical music along
with Pablo Bonifaz and Afil Negro from Cancun. Nelita opens at the Princess
at 9:00 tonight.

‘”We do all kinds of music. You’re gonna hear show music, Latin tunes,
Broadway tunes you don’t even realise are Broadway tunes, because other
people have done it. But we’ve been working together on and off for fifteen
years and these are people that play music every single day of their lives,
sometimes two, three jobs a day. It’s something I’ve wanted to do and
we’re going to be taping it so we have it for posterity.”

Nelita says tonight’s performance is a gift of music she’s been wanting
to share for a while.

“It’s a link I made musically with these guys, especially Pablo, way
back in 1984 when I first went to Cancun, and I have sung with a great
many pianists, but every once in a while you just connect in a special
way with somebody. I just wanted to bring them to Belize because I wanted
share this with our people.” And just what can our people expect?

“Every time I sing people ask for “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina”, So
we’re going to do a few of the more well known Broadway tunes and a lot
of really beautiful Spanish music. We’re going to do medleys of Boleros,
songs that I used to sing when I was a little girl, songs that everybody
will recognise that they have heard over the radio for years and a few
new surprises. Things that are like pieces of theatre really because there
are some songs by their very nature that tell a story, they paint a picture,
and we’re just gonna do it and have a wonderful time.
