NGO act is now law
Non-Governmental Organisations operating in Belize are now subject to
specific operational guidelines under the new NGO Act passed into law
on February seventeenth, 2001. This Act provides for the establishment
and registration of non-governmental organisations; to regulate their
operation so as to create transparency and accountability and to specify
minimum standards which must be observed. If you’d like to register your
NGO you can do so at the Ministry of Human Development, Women and Civil
Society in Belmopan no later than July thirty-first 2001. International,
regional and intergovernmental organisations operating in Belize as an
NGO, whose programme of activities falls within the definition of “suitable
development” must also register under this act.
