San Pedro hosts Lions convention
Over two hundred Lions in Belize are expected to descend on San Pedro this weekend for their twenty-fourth annual convention. According to zone chairman Dr. Chris Bennett, the three day event affords members the opportunity for training, fellowship, and to reflect on Lionism.

“The highlight will be the opening ceremonies, I believe, and even though there will be a lot of training, there’s also a chance for Lions to intermix and have fun. As part of the opening ceremonies besides our guest speaker, the Governor General, we will also have hospitality booths where the Lions Club all over the country will be able to provide for their guests some aspect of culture, food from their area. We are expecting some two hundred Lions and their guests to attend this convention this weekend.”

There’s also the coronation of the Lion’s Queen.”

“Queen shows are always popular, and in Belize we have a queen from each Lions Club. So we have the queen show on Saturday and then the queen that wins is then the district queen or queen of the whole country of Belize. That queen travels with myself, who is the zone chairman, to all the official functions in Belize.”
Election of a new zone chairman and other officers will take place during the convention. Lions in Belize are part of a worldwide service organisation of over one million men and women.
