17 year old charged with Sandhill stabbing
Leon Anthony Walford, the seventeen-year-old man at the centre of last Thursday’s drama in Sandhill, was formally arraigned today in Magistrate’s Court. Walford was charged with attempted murder, dangerous harm, use of deadly means of harm, two counts of wounding, aggravated assault and common assault. It is alleged that in the wee hours of Thursday morning, Walford quarrelled with his girlfriend, Natalie Arthurs, and tried to attack her with a knife. When she managed to escape, he instead stabbed her cousin, Sharon Arthurs and also held a fourteen-year old boy hostage to facilitate his escape. The incident occurred during a church retreat at a compound in Sandhill. Walford is said to have become enraged when the twenty-five year old Natalie told him she was breaking off their relationship.
