Belize Celebrates World Food Day

Today, Belize joined the international community in celebrating World Food Day. This year, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is focusing on the importance of healthy diets in tackling global hunger. The organization has highlighted an urgent need to ensure healthy and sustainable diets are both affordable and accessible to all. This year’s activities were held at Ladyville Technical School where Agriculture Minister Godwin Hulse was the keynote speaker.

“What we set out to do on World Food Day is to create awareness of healthy living. As you there is a Belize Parliamentary Alliance which was part of a worldwide movement because the focus now is keeping with the United Nation’s mandate is to ensure that by year 2025, by 2030 forsure, we have reduced hunger; definitely malnutrition and we being to focus more on the human being and his wellbeing.”

“A matter of great relevance in the quest to eradicate hunger is the transformation of our food systems. The 2030 agenda requires inclusive, efficient and responsible agro-food systems that integrate production, sustainable value chains to ensure the supply of adequate affordable and healthy food. Given F.A.O.’s mandate and expertise, we are ready to play a central role in the field of food and agriculture.”
