Patrick or John? Nobody Knows Who Will Win Says Peyrefitte
With the leadership convention scheduled for February 2020, it would appear that the highest number of delegates is adding up in favour of John Saldivar, who lost to Patrick Faber in June 2016 when both ran for deputy leadership. But that depends on who you ask. While Hugo Patt, Beverly Williams, Shyne Barrow and Phillip Willoughby have all come out in favor of Saldivar, Deputy Prime Minister Faber is also shoring up support from his colleagues with an ongoing leadership campaign. We asked Senator Peyrefitte to weigh in on that race and here’s his response.
Michael Peyrefitte, Member, United Democratic Party
“To be honest with you I haven’t been measuring it, you hear all kinds of things and people can say all types of things. Nobody will know, we can speculate all we want but nobody will know until the ballots are cast and people vote and we count the votes. All I know is that I love the energy and the excitement around it and I want to make sure that if I am lucky to be chairman, to make sure that I can manage that energy like I said. In terms of who has the advantage, who has the disadvantage, you could talk to a hundred people and get a hundred different responses, so I don’t want to be 101. You can take any position and you could be right or wrong, so I would say just, I would encourage everybody to campaign as hard as they can and on February ninth, at the end of the day, we will know exactly who was having the advantage all along and who will be victorious on that day.”
